Chereponi District Commemorates Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary with Renewed Call for Development and Unity

The Chereponi District Assembly joined the rest of the nation in marking Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary with a colourful celebration held in Chereponi. The event brought together traditional authorities, political leaders, security agencies, heads of departments, religious leaders, teachers, students, and community members.

In his keynote address, the District Chief Executive (DCE) underscored the historical significance of Ghana’s independence, describing 6th March 1957 as a defining moment that shaped the nation’s destiny and inspired the liberation of several African countries. He emphasized that this year’s national theme, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” remains crucial in addressing the socio-economic challenges facing the nation.

Commitment to Development in Chereponi

The DCE reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to driving development across the district through improved infrastructure, strengthened social services, and enhanced community engagement.

Progress in Education

He highlighted several completed and ongoing educational projects aimed at improving teaching and learning:

  • Completion of a 3-Unit Classroom Block at Tambong.
  • Rehabilitation of a 3-Unit Classroom Block at Kukpong.
  • Ongoing construction of a CHPS Compound at Waaku, currently at roofing level.

Advancements in Healthcare

To expand access to healthcare services, the Assembly has:

  • Commenced construction of a CHPS Compound at Nabujuku.
  • Completed rehabilitation of CHPS compounds at Naja and Adali.

The DCE announced additional planned projects including:

  • A 6-Unit Classroom Block at Tumpondi.
  • Rehabilitation of R/C Primary School at Kwame Nansoni.
  • Rehabilitation of Nurudeen Islamic JHS at Banjani.
  • Drilling of six boreholes in selected communities to improve access to potable water.

Road Infrastructure Improvements

The DCE reported significant progress on major road networks:

  • The Saboba–Chereponi–Wenchiki–Bunkprugu Road, awarded under the Government’s “Big Push Programme,” is currently under active construction.
  • Work on the Yendi–Chereponi Road is ongoing, with culverts being fixed and key sections gravelled.
  • Several feeder roads, including those linking Gbalo, Timpondi, and Wenchiki, have been reshaped, enhancing mobility and supporting agricultural activities.

Focus on Peace, Sanitation, and Community Responsibility

The DCE emphasized that development thrives in an atmosphere of peace and urged residents to use lawful and peaceful means in resolving land disputes. He further appealed to the public to take sanitation seriously and support District Assembly efforts to maintain clean and healthy communities.

Health Advisory: CSM Alert

In his address, the DCE drew attention to the recent outbreak of Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) reported in some parts of the country. He encouraged residents to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as severe headache, fever, neck stiffness, or vomiting.

Appreciation and a Call to Action

The DCE expressed gratitude to the security services for their continuous dedication to peace and order. He also encouraged teachers and students to uphold discipline, patriotism, and a commitment to learning, as they represent the future of Ghana.

He concluded with a call for unity, transparency, accountability, and collective participation in community development.

“If we remain united, determined, and law-abiding, we will surely build prosperity and restore hope—not only in words, but in action.”
